Surfside Beach Marathon

Well, my mom and I have actually completed our first marathon together.  Friday we met up that morning at the Starbucks by moms house, and then we took off. We arrived in Surfside around 1:30 that afternoon. We had lunch at the cafe by the hotel we we still had to wait until three for our room to be ready.  After we checked in, we relaxed in our room until it was time to go get our bib and everything else at 5. It turned out my mom had two red bikinis packed with her so we each put on one and went to the beach until dinner.  Not too long after we posted the pictures on facebook, my Aunt Evie from the Phillipines  showed a picture of her, my mom and myself in a red bikini, and said her sister Pinky now needs to post a picture of herself in a red bikini. So, apparently my mom and I have started an international red bikini challenge. *hehe*
We got up at 4 in the morning to run because we wanted to start at 5:30 a.m. with the early runners because we had to check out of our hotel by noon.  We had trouble finding the turnaround point around mile two, so we actually ran about  a quarter of a mile more because of that. ( I just said it was my moms way of trying to get me into ultra marathons , and hundred milers now .lol )  But distance, and everything else aside , it really was a nice peaceful run on the beach.  I had to use the portapotty twice, and I am wondering if it is because of the chili I had at the resturant the day before. It was  a little spicy. Oh well, I learned - nothing too spicy day before the race for Donna. But despite that, my mom and I finished  by 11:15/11:20ish. We really didn't have a time goal. I was just the one going ok I already got 10,000 steps on my fitbit when my tracker said I got to the point, and we did a 10k we're good right at mile 6. lol  Running with my mom was a definite reminder I still have a long way to go when it comes to running marathons. But I am on the right track, which is good to know.  Mom  also reminds me how fun it is to travel and to do stuff like this, when you have the time, and money ofcourse. Scott always makes sure I am active here on a daily basis, since I no longer live with my mom.  He always lets me at least  run when I can't make it to the gym because of work, or I need to get a run in for training . It's a definite reminder of what I can possibly become if  I continue to work hard, and  no matter what happens now, I am blessed to have people who want me to be the best I can be.
