JailBreak Run

From Satown all the way to Baytown. Irene, Kathrynn, and I ran the JailBreak half marathon in Baytown, Texas this Saturday. The weather was perfect for running, and although it was windy in a couple of spots, it was nice t just to be outside, and run around a new course. Every runner raises money for police officers who face service related illness and injuries.
After that, mom and I went to the Boardwalk there,  and walked around before heading back to San Antonio.  It's always hard leaving a city you don't live in because there is always someplace you want to see , or something to  do before going back home and working again.
The ride home was rough because for some reason, my stomach was hurting so I ended up crashing along the way back home , and slept again as soon as I got back to San Antonio.
Today, I went to the gym, and had a late lunch/dinner with friends to catch up.
It made me wonder about friends and family.
I have come to the conclusion that friends and family are the people who love and want to be with you even though you are cranky first thing in the morning until you've had your coffee, and will be willing to drive you all the way to Houston and back just to run a race, run with you ( literally or metaphorically), or want to have a meal with you just to say how's it going.  I am fortunate to have that.

Midweek blog

Well, in a few days I will be headed  out of town to do another half marathon. I  am looking forward to another race. I am just hoping that the weather will cooperate and my legs will somehow carry me to the finish line. It has been a while since I have been in the area, so it will be nice to explore it again. I believe the next race after this I will be doing is the Alamo 13.1, before heading to Corpus Christi for Beach to Bay. That is on top of San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathon in December. So here's to an action packed year.
Recent events have made me wonder about balance.  I like to think there is room in my life for friends, family, and fitness.  Lately I feel like everything has been off balance. I am hoping that everything will be balanced again soon. After all , sometimes you have to get off balance to find it again.

When life gives you lemons..

The weather in San Antonio never ceases to amaze me.  The fog was almost as thick as pea soup this morning. I mean mom and I could barely see outside the car window. But, true to form, it was sunny later on this afternoon.
I have to admit , my mind was as cloudy as the fog that morning because of a situation. It was frustrating because I didn't know how much was really in my control, and how much wasn't. But what's done is done, and it is straightened out now.
It made me think though, perhaps  like when it's foggy outside, it's hard to see too far ahead sometimes.  But eventually the clouds will part, and the sun will  shine again.

Pre Valentines Day blog

Well if you didn't know Valentines Day was around the corner, all you have to do is go to the grocery store. Literally within 5 steps of entering H-E-B tonight,  mom found a booth selling chocolate dipped strawberries. That is on top of the balloons, cards, cakes, and chocolates to give yourself, or your special someone.
After being on both sides of the line on Valentines Day, I really must say it is true the most important relationship you have really is the one you have with yourself.
If there is one thing I know about myself is I can be like an old man. I can be moody before I get my first cup of coffee in my system, or cranky and set in my ways. But I try to help how I can, and I am definitely thankful everyone I talk to is in my life.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentines Day single , or taken.
 Love you all

Girls day..

Well, another work week has come and went.  I am glad that I am getting better at my current job.But I can tell I am still working on balance between work, and everything else.  Why does life have to be one big balancing act? Darn having to be a grown up, or pretending to be a grown up in my case.  I can't adult in any day that ends in "y." ha ha.
Anyway, today  turned out to be a pretty good day. I went for a 5k with my running group and we did a 10 mile bikeride after that. It was my first time being on a bike outside of a spin class at the gym.  I feel like I did ok considering that.  The bike I ended up inheriting since my mom got a new bike still needs to be adjusted for my height but thats about it.
After that I realized I still am a cheap date.
Mom and I went to a fleamarket because her friend Lydia wanted to look at something at a booth her friend has  ,and while I was there , I bought a book for fifty cents. It was a copy of "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown. I have "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons." So, I figured why not see how much I like this one. Yeah for the little things!
I swear, if I am ever broke, it is because since I am a runner, I spend money on things like running shoes and race fees. Plus, I always buy books when I find one that looks interesting.
My friend Melanie can tell you I can go into a bookstore  just to look and end up coming out with three. Yes, I know that is one of my many problems.
But  right now I am just thankful I have a few things to look forward to. I have a race at the end of this month. I have another race next month , and in May so far.  I hope 2017 turns out to be an action packed year.
Love you all

Everything in your own time...

Happy Superbowl Sunday everyone!
I hope everyone is enjoying the food, the game, and the commercials.
Saturday turned out to be a full day.  I started the morning by running a 5k with my running group. I was actually a couple of minutes faster than before than last week. I hope I can keep it up. I need to get my groove back.
That evening, I went to Felicias housewarming party.   I  still remember  Felicia was talking about wanting her own place when I was running with her . I remember she got the call saying that they accepted the bid for her house when we where going on our last long run for a race she was training for. See, things happens on those long runs. *hehe*
At the party there was  homemade macaroni, enchiladas, cake, cookies, brownies, chicken sandwiches, jello shots and plenty of wine.  I am now blessed to have three female friends who own their own homes on their own. ( My friends Carrie and Laura are also homeowners -woot! )  I hope these ladies know all of them inspire me to be the best person I can be and to continue to do what I love.
After the party, I couldn't help but think we're always on that search for something weither it's love, a job, a home, or some way to better whatever situation we are in.
I am at the age where it seems like all my friends are getting married, promoted, ect.  I know I have had a few successes so far. But I still have yet to do things like own my own home, or tie the knot.
It does seem like we're told by my age we're supposed to be established or getting established in a job we enjoy, and be married, or on the way to one of those two.
But, perhaps life isn't about doing things on that sort of timeline. Maybe it is about working hard, doing what you enjoy, and knowing that good things like getting your own home will come when the time is right for you.
Love you all.

Girl talk

Tonight while Melanie and I where chit chatting over facebook , she mentioned that sometimes she still misses Dustin.  If you don't know, Dustin is a guy Melanie has liked since high school, and  it didn't work out because he didn't feel the same way about her. It really  was a case of  "He's Just Not That Into You."(I know she proably wishes I would burn that book already. But I need it. I can decode boy behavior for my friends easily, but for myself, not so much.)  I noticed  Melanie was the one initiating most of their hangs out when they got together, and sure enough he told her he only saw her as a friend.
I really felt bad  when Dustin told her that because honestly if you don't know Melanie,  she really is one of the nicest people you will meet. She'll cook for you, play games with you, let you drink as much coffee as you want with her, somehow put up with rooming with a certain quirky brunette for two years in college, on top of working on events with this person, and still talks to her today. :0)
Plus, Dustin was the only guy Melanie has talked about liking. (Aside from Johnny Depp, but we're still figuring out how we're going to share him. Basically, I get him on every day that ends in a ' y.' HA HA. LOL)
It made me realize that we all have a "Dustin." We all have someone that we like , and are just hoping they like us back in return.   When rejection happens, we all tend  to wonder if there was something we could have said or done differently to make them change their minds. Then we think if only I where smarter, prettier, ect.   But, after seeing my friend Irenes boyfriend Nestor  run with us, and seeing my friend Kathrynns fiancee Ralph chauffer us to Austin, around Austin , pick us up, and dropp us off  early in the morning at the half marathon we ran up there a few weeks ago, you  just realize you don't want someone you have to change yourself for. You want the one who lets you be yourself and supports your crazy endeavors.
