Mini Mini Con at the Wonderland of the Americas: a not so mini con after all.
On Saturday , May 11th, 2018 was the Mini Mini con at the Wonderland of the Americas. It's a small anime convention they host there as a way to promote the bigger anime convention , San Japan that is coming up.
I remember working that event a few years ago. But, this was my first time going as a guest. At 2 p.m. I got there with Ian, and his friend Jennie. Even though it was supposed to be a mini convention, it still had a really good turn out. Artists, and vendors where there selling their merchandise. People came in costume, there was a place to sing karaoke, panels, and a cosplay contest at the end of the evening. I sang a little karaoke before meeting up with Sarah, her husband Dario, Rachel, Jonah and Jacquelin.
Jonah showed up in his Burger King uniform since he came to the convention straight from work. Right then, we decided we needed to find a guy dressed like Ronald McDonald , and Colonel Sanders to make either a fast food showdown, or the biggest fast food merger ever. During the cosplay contest , since we saw someone at the convention dressed as Kim Possible , and her nemesis, Shego , one of my friends said they like the show Kim Possible, but they didn't want to admit it ,so they would just watch it when their younger sister had it on. I assured her it was okay to come out of the Kim Possible closet. Then, I would not be alone. I watched Kim Possible when it was on television. Plus, life is too short to do anything but what makes you happy.
Sherwood Forest Faire: the final huzzah!

Clink! Clink! You can hear the blacksmiths working as
soon as you enter.
On April 22nd, 2018 I went to the Sherwood
Forest Faire with Ian Walker Kamp, Rachel Pro, Ian Pro, Brent Lofton, Derek
Reed, and his daughter Chloe Reed.
After we arrived to the fairgrounds, I lent Chloe my
butterfly wings that I wore for Halloween.
Rachel happened to have bunny ears with her, so she gave that to Chloe
to wear, and with that, the first butterfly bunny was born.
We walked around the faire while the butterfly bunny
got pushed in a cart Derek got at the entrance.
As we watched archery, and started to look at the shops, I wondered why
they didn’t have carts to pull adults in since Chloe wouldn’t let any of us in
with her.
I caught the “Washing
Well Wenches” show. There, a man and
woman juggled while playing
several musical instruments. For the finale, they even
juggled fire! After the show, everyone was getting hungry, so we snacked on the
food we brought with us. Not too long after we ate, the butterfly bunny was
getting tired, so Derek, Ian Pro, and Chloe left.
I got to see the Celtic rock band, Saxon Moon perform.
While the band was playing, fire dancers performed at the side of the stage.
After the performance, Ian Walker Kamp and I met back up with Rachel and Brent,
who were on the search for a chocolate cheesecake stand we saw earlier, and
turkey legs.
As the five of us were starting to head home, a
merchant walked toward us, and asked us to take her hand. Brent
eventually took her hand, and the merchant took Brent to her booth. There, we were shown some of the scarves they
had for sale. Rachel tried one on, but they didn’t have the color she
wanted. So while the stop didn’t lead
into a sale, Brent said the girl who talked to us was cute, and it reminded me
that hustling is a skill that has stood the test of time.
Now, we are all back in San Antonio, back to the daily
grind. As the pictures from the trip get
posted, I can’t help but think, I have known some of the people I went to the
faire with for years, and some of them I am just getting to know. But, I hope I have the opportunity to be in many pictures with all of them in the years to
come.
