A Disney state of mind...

Hello everyone! Well over the weekend I ended up rewatching "Beauty and the Beast." It reminded me how when I was younger I used to love it when one of those classic Disney movies came out on VHS and watching it at soon as I got home.
I decided just to be different, and to post something positive out there, here is a list of my top 10 favorite Disney movies.
10.  The Cheetah Girls movies. I love most of their songs. I can't help but dancing to most of time everytime it's played, and you can't help but want the Cheetah Girls to continue to succeed as a group. Plus I would love to travel to the places they got to go in their movies. I mean who wouldn't want to sing and dance in Spain, and India , right?
9. The Princess and The Frog.  I really admire how hard Tiana is working to try and fulfill her dream of owning a restaurant. Plus, I love the plot twist where she gets turned into a frog herself at the beginning .
8.  Peter Pan. It was the biggest musical I have got to work on. (In college I helped with costuming in the Dave Barry version, which was the inspiration for the Walt Disney version.) This movie has everything- going to Neverland where you never grow up, pirates and indians. Plus, I love the theme of growing up.
7. Cinderella.  It is the ultimate rags to riches story and a definite reminder to keep believing in your dreams.
6. Frozen. I love the relationship between Elsa and Ana. You really feel bad when Ana doesn't know why Elsa is shutting her out of a sudden, and you're rooting for the reconcile until the very end.
5. Tangled. I love Flynn Riders wit and sense of humor. You learn that a frying pan has two purposes and that we all have a dream that we're chasing.
4. The Little Mermaid. I wish I could sing like Jodie Benson. I loved Sebastian singing "Under the Sea."  Plus, it is a definite reminder that even if you're a mermaid in love with a human, you can still make your dreams come true.
3. Aladdin. Ah the things we do for the love of a princess. I loved it when Aladdin and Jasmine confess they both feel trapped when they meet in the marketplace, and in the end they still get to be with one another.
2. Mulan. How can you not love Mulan? She joins the army in her fathers place knowing she could have died if she got caught. She ends up saving China, and bringing honor to her family. Hell yeah! I cry everytime Mulan comes back home , shows her father the gifts she received, and he just says "the greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter."
1. Beauty and the Beast. This will forever be my favorite Disney movie. It's the most complex of the Disney romance movies because it goes from Belle not wanting anything to do with the Beast, to a friendship, and then ultimately their romance. (In most Disney movies, it's boy meets girl and they fall in love instantly which is not the case here.) I love seeing Gaston go from this guy saying I'm going to marry Belle because she's beautiful to someone who tried to kill the Beast just because he saw the Beast as someone in his way of Belles affection. I loved seeing the castle objects sing "Be Our Guest," and a definite reminder true beauty lies on the inside.
Alright  my friends what is your favorite Disney movie??
Love you all

Sunday morning blog

Hello everyone!
Well yesterday I ended up  running a 5k with some members of USAfit. It got started because Irene wanted a program to help with speed. I am going because I know I don't do things like speedwork unless I want to do.  After that I went to Costco with my moms friend Jim. We joked around about going to Costco without mom because she was still at a seminar when we went to the store , and she likes the 1.50 hot dogs they sell there.
After our trip to Costco, it was time to head home.  After that mom and I went out , and I where going to see  a movie, but after we got out of the corner store, we realized that wouldn't be there on time. Aside from that, just pretending to be productive at home and I will be going to the gym later on.
I can tell I am still working on finding something that works for me when I can't go to the gym. I like running, but I still miss going to the gym like I used to.  I hope I find some balance to the force soon. But I know Im still blessed to be able to run, work ,ect.
Love you all

Austin 3m

Well, the theme of the San Antonio Rock n Roll  marathon  in December was running in the rain. Today, the theme of  the Austin 3m was running in the wind. It was windy all morning, and at mile 12, there was a really strong headwind. (Figures it would be during the last mile, right?)  At that point, I  wondered if I could get an umbrella out and be pulled into the sky, like in the movie Mary Poppins and still get a finisher medal for finishing the race that way.  But  even with the wind, everyone in our group finished. (Yeah! :0) ) After the race, we had enough time to go back to our hotel, shower , change and then it was time to check out and get lunch.  We made a quick stop at IHOP, and at Bucees ,then we where back in San Antonio.  Now I should be doing things like getting ready for work tomorrow, et, but really, mom and I are really just resting our legs , and soon we'll be starting to make plans for the half marathon we will be running in Houston next month.
Personally I can tell I need to start doing some  more speed workouts because I want to get back to where I was. But ,I am blessed to have a group of people who are willing to travel and run with me in the wind and rain- even though they clearly know how crazy my mom and I are . *Hehe*
Kathrynn, her boyfriend  Ralph and Irene learned that if you mention any musical while I am in the car with you, I will end up singing a few bars of a song from said musical if I happen to know the words to the song, even at 6 in the morning. (Yes, I am that friend, and always will be.)

Austin day 1

New year, new race.
Tomorrow I will be running my first half marathon of 2017.  I will be running the 3M, a  downhill race that ends in downtown Austin. I am hoping the half I am doing tomorrow, and the half marathon I will be doing in Houston next week will help me get my groove back.
I am still getting used to my new routine. I feel like all I need now is a new house, and new boyfriend. ( But I know those things will come in their own time.)
The day went by alot quicker than I thought. At 9:30 mom and I met up with Kathryn, Irene, Kathryn's boyfriend Ralph and we took off for Austin. We stopped at the Austin Convention Center to get our race gear. It was a small, but nice convention. We got alot of office supplies in our gear bag, I got to try some free samples of clif bars, and ofcourse got some cool expo pictures.
But the race came at an interesting time because today people where marching for womens rights. So when we where trying to go get lunch, we had to go around the path people where marching. We went to HomeSlice for lunch , and it was a little bit of a wait. However, the pizza turned out to be really good.
Now we are checked in our hotel, and we have the movie Hook on. I forgot how liberal the city of Austin is.  At Homeslice, they had unisex bathrooms, and we happened to come on the day people where marching for womens right, so we had to take some alternate routes because of the march.
Honestly, when it comes to womens rights, I think  we have come a long way. But we still have a long way to go. We still have a double edged sword in society. We're told yes we can vote,  go out and have fulfilling careers. But we're still supposed to  be the primary caretakers at home.
I say make sure we all get paid the same, and treat one another with respect ;we'll all get along fine, and weither you are a stay at home mom or a career woman as long as you are able to do what you love, you are a rockstar.

Sunday Night Blog

Evening everyone!
Well, it is the end to another week. I slept in, went to the gym, got some groceries, and now I have a load of laundry going . Next weekend, I will be going to Austin for a half marathon. I am looking forward to it just because it will be my first time going to Austin for  a race. Plus I still like a good half marathon. Really there is nothing half about a half marathon. 13 miles is still a good distance to work toward, and it's not as long or tiring as full marathons, so you will still have energy to do other things later- yeah! lol  I still don't know how I feel when I have to travel for  races. It's always fun seeing a new city. But, I still don't like having to remember things like GU.  When I pack, I am more like ok I have running clothes, clothes for later and my toothbrush- I should be good. Plus, I still like to see whatever city I explore when I am not racing  as well. I like some balance to the force.
Aside from that, it'll be back to work.  Tonight I got to watch "Joyful Noise" for the first time. As always, it's a treat to hear Queen Latifah, and Dolly Parton sing. I have to admit,  Queen Latifahs character reminds me of my mom. A no nonsense person, and I couldn't help but think. Queen Latifiahs charector is the church choir director, and my mom is the USAFIT running coach. I'm just a quirky brunette just trying to keep up with her.

Saturday Night Blog

Hello everyone!
Well today I learned that a little rain doesn't hurt anybody. My mom and I went with some USAFit members to Enchanted Rock for a hike this morning to celebrate Irenes birthday. Even though we couldn't climb the actual rock we went for a 5 mile hike in the area. After that we ate lunch at Pasta Bella, an italian restaurant in the area, and then after lunch me, Irene, her boyfriend Nester, mom Rachel,  and Rachels dad Vernon ended up walking around the town of Fredericksburg until the evening came upon us, then we parted ways.
After getting back in San Antonio, my mom and I got Chinese food,  and we have just been watching " A Series of Unfortanute Events." Between the hike, running around the town, and watching "La La Land" late at the movie theaters last night.  But, I got to see Ryan Gosling dancing, so it was worth it.
Plus, the last part of the movie where the two main characters wonder what might have happened made me wonder what would have happened if I made different choices in my past. Particularly because my mom constantly reminds me we reap we sew.
But, as much as it is only natural to wonder sometimes, I also believe everything works out how it is meant to in the end, and all we can do is concentrate on what is going on in the present.
Now, it is time to get some rest.
Love you all.

Sunday night blog

Happy 2017 everyone! So far my new year has been off to a good start. I still feel like the only thing new. (Haha)Yesterday ended up being a girls day. (Yeah!) It started with an 8 mile run with my mom. Then, I had lunch with Felicia, and I finally got to see her new place that afternoon. Then, my friend Carrie came over and gave me and my mom a haircut. Today  my mom and I ran 13 miles with our friend Irene because she was going to do the Disney half marathon, but it got cancelled due to the weather, and she still wanted to get the mileage in. Now, I  have a movie on Netflix, and my legs are still recovering from two hilly runs. I am hoping the half marathon I will be running at the end of the month will be worth it.  Also, I am beginning to wonder how people run in the cold now. These past two days because it would be 20 degrees when I would start running, it was hard for me to get started.
But,  the one thing I am slowly learning  as the new years starts, is  that there really are people who really admire your abilities no matter what they are.  I've had people tell me they wish they could run when I say I've done marathons. I've had people say they wish they would write when I tell them I am an English major. So keep doing what makes you unique because people do notice what you bring to the table.
Love you all.
